The true cost of Trump’s ‘beautiful’ tax bill falls on America’s poorest | PennLive letters

Understanding that living on credit while spending more than you earned is just not sustainable, many Americans make difficult budgeting decisions on a daily basis.

Therefore, why do Republicans in Congress support a spending measure that would increase the already enormous $32.2 trillion national debt? Currently, interest costs taxpayers more annually than our national defense.

Economists caution that raising the national debt now will make it more difficult for our country to deal with actual future emergencies like pandemics, natural disasters, and wars. Instead of adding another $2.4 trillion to our deficit to prolong Republican tax cuts for billionaires, we should be cleaning up our fiscal mess.

The poorest Americans are robbed by Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Tax Bill, which has been rightly characterized as the largest upward transfer of wealth in American history, in order to provide the affluent enormous tax breaks. This measure includes $1.1 trillion in Medicaid and SNAP food assistance cuts, as well as $1.1 trillion in tax cuts for individuals earning over $500,000. The loss of health insurance might affect 15 million Americans.

As the government hikes interest rates to draw in the investment needed to close the deficit, growing national debt will also contribute to inflation. Interest rates on credit cards, auto loans, and mortgages will subsequently rise as well.

There must be enough! Speak with your Republican congressman, U.S. Senators John Fetterman and Dave McCormick, and urge them to oppose this detrimental spending bill and begin prioritizing the needs and welfare of regular, hardworking Americans.
