Transitional housing program in Dauphin County to launch in January

Published On:

Susquehanna Township will begin a transitional housing program in January.

Based at a former assisted living facility at 3251 Butler St., the LHM Hospice & Social Services Foundation announced that its new Horizons transitional housing program will offer tailored services to assist participants in overcoming obstacles to housing security in a caring residential community.

In order to achieve long-term stability, the program will meet the participants’ urgent requirements while also imparting the necessary skills. A success advocate will be assigned to each participant to assist them in setting objectives and developing a plan of action to reach them.

Participants will engage in programs on needs-based subjects like job coaching, financial literacy, and educational support.

The 42,000-square-foot structure that will house the Horizons program is now undergoing renovations. In addition to a commercial-grade kitchen and eating area, the facility will house 58 residential units for single persons and families, as well as areas for social gatherings, work, and educational events.

According to a news release from the foundation’s board chair, Luke Drayer, the LHM Foundation was established with the goal of addressing unmet needs in our communities, especially those related to homelessness. I consider myself fortunate to be seeing that vision come closer to reality.

Hospice services are also offered through LHM Hospice by the LHM Hospice & Social Services Foundation. The LHM Foundation also sends volunteers into communities to help other nonprofits fulfill their aims through its Beam Teams initiative. Sawtara Township is home to the foundation.
