According to sources who spoke to Fox News, Republican Representative Mike Collins is anticipated to formally enter Georgia’s crucial U.S. Senate campaign the next week, posing a serious threat to Democrat Sen. Jon Ossoff in one of the most competitive battleground states of the 2026 midterm elections.
Collins, a conservative legislator and ardent supporter of President Donald Trump, has spent months preparing to run in Georgia, a state that Trump won by a slim margin in 2024. Republicans consider Ossoff’s seat to be their best chance to win a Senate seat in the upcoming election season.
The tires kicked. Collins fueled up earlier this week by posting a campaign-style video that included Trump’s compliments, strongly hinting at his desire to run for the Senate.
Collins, the son of former Representative Mac Collins, is a second-term congressman who represents Georgia’s 10th District. He began his career as a small company owner. He was one of the first Georgia public leaders to back Trump’s 2016 campaign, and he has always positioned himself as an America First warrior.
A Trump Supporter with a National Presence
By visiting important early primary states including Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina and setting up three Trump campaign offices around Georgia, Collins actively participated in Trump’s 2024 resurgence. Additionally, he helped the GOP maintain its small majority in Congress by running campaigns for Trump-aligned House candidates in 10 different districts nationwide.
Following his return to the White House, Trump signed the Laken Riley Act, one of Collins’ major pieces of legislation. The law, which bears the name of a nursing student in Georgia who was murdered by an undocumented immigrant, mandates that federal officials hold unauthorized migrants accused of stealing or breaking and entering. Both chambers swiftly approved the bill.
According to a Republican source who spoke to Fox News, he has a terrific relationship with the president and his administration. Mike will be running in the America First lane, which is an actual lane.
Ossoff Is Under Increasing Republican Criticism
Sen. Jon Ossoff is now regarded as one of the most vulnerable Democrats seeking reelection after being barely elected in 2020. However, it won’t be simple to flip the seat. Ossoff currently has over $15 million in campaign funds after raising over $10 million in the second quarter of 2024.
Before Collins’ anticipated debut, Democrats wasted no time in assaulting him.
Mike Collins seeks a promotion after voting to deny 750,000 Georgians health care? Devon Cruz, a spokesman for the Georgia Democratic Party, made reference to the Medicaid cuts in the recently approved budget signed by President Trump. In a chaotic primary, he will lose badly as Senator Ossoff keeps gaining ground.
A Congested GOP Field
Collins joins a Republican primary that is getting more and more competitive. Longtime Georgia legislator Rep. Buddy Carter, who is running for the Senate earlier this year, is also trying to get Trump’s support. John King, the commissioner of insurance for Georgia, had entered the contest for a short time but left on Thursday.
The son of renowned University of Georgia football coach Vince Dooley, Derek Dooley, a former Tennessee football coach, is allegedly considering making a bid. Dooley is close to term-limited Governor Brian Kemp, who turned down national GOP leaders’ intense interest in running for the Senate.
According to early polls, Collins is competitive against Ossoff in head-to-head contests and has an advantage over his Republican opponents.
Trump, whose backing is still the most influential in Republican politics, has not yet said which candidate he would back. Collins, however, is a clear favorite among Trump supporters in Georgia and elsewhere due to his lengthy history of backing the president and his early agreement on significant legislative initiatives.
