Trump lashes out at Biden after illegal immigrant accused of shooting CBP officer in NYC

President Donald Trump sharply

criticized

former President Joe Biden following the shooting of an off-duty Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer in New York City by a suspected illegal immigrant with a history of violent crimes.

“Last night, in New York City, an incredible CBP Officer was shot in the face by an Illegal Alien Monster freed into the Country under Joe Biden,” Trump wrote Sunday on Truth Social. “He was apprehended at the Border in April 2023 but, instead of being deported, was RELEASED.”

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old

Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez

, is a Dominican national who, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), crossed into the U.S. near San Luis, Arizona in April 2023 and was released by border authorities. DHS also confirmed that Nunez had an outstanding kidnapping warrant in Massachusetts and multiple prior arrests, including for assault and violating an order of protection.

At a Sunday press conference, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said Nunez was also wanted in connection with a December robbery, a January stabbing, and had an open bench warrant from the Bronx.

Trump: “Criminal Invaders” Must Be Expelled

Trump seized on the incident to blast Biden’s

immigration

policies, saying, “The Democrats have flooded our Nation with Criminal Invaders, and now, they must all be thrown out or, in some cases, immediately prosecuted… That’s how evil and dangerous they are!”

Authorities say Nunez and another individual approached the off-duty CBP officer—who was sitting in Riverside Park Saturday night—on a motorized scooter and attempted to rob him. A shootout followed, during which both Nunez and the officer were struck multiple times. Nunez later walked into a hospital for treatment, while the officer—whose name has not been released—is expected to recover.

“The officer bravely fought off his attacker, despite his wounds, demonstrating enormous Skill and Courage,” Trump said.

Nunez Faces Attempted Murder Charge

Mayor Adams confirmed Nunez was in

custody

and expected to face several charges, including attempted murder.

“He has inflicted violence in our city and once he is charged for last night’s crimes, we will be able to add attempted murder to his rap sheet,” Adams said.

DHS has issued an immigration detainer

against

Nunez while he remains hospitalized for gunshot wounds to his groin and leg.

The incident has reignited heated debate over immigration enforcement and public safety, with Trump making it a central point in his ongoing criticism of the Biden administration.
