On Friday, President Donald Trump urged U.S. Senator John Fetterman to support the Republican budget measure in the Senate, calling him the most sane Democratic senator.
Seeing if we receive any Democratic votes would be fascinating. During a White House press conference, Trump stated, “We should.” I would vote for Fetterman if I were a Democrat, as he seems to be the most reasonable candidate these days.
Trump claimed that because his One, Big, Beautiful Bill includes tax cuts and many other sensible provisions, Democratic senators ought to support it.
Trump declared, “I would vote for this bill all day long if I were a Democrat.”
Trump: We should, but it will be interesting to see whether we receive any Democratic votes. Fetterman, perhaps, as he’s the most rational one these days. I would vote for this measure all day long if I were a Democrat.pic.twitter.com/7zCZ7agJaM
Trump’s remarks on Friday were not immediately addressed by Fetterman on social media, but he has consistently opposed the measure, pointing to changes to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Fetterman stated on X/Twitter on June 4 that almost 300,000 Pennsylvanians would no longer be covered by Medicaid. Energy bills for Pennsylvania families would increase by up to $1200. The United States would lose $50 billion as domestic manufacturing tax benefits will be eliminated. And now there’s this enormous deficit. I’m a NO once more.
More recently, Fetterman shared a picture of himself meeting with activists on Wednesday, reinforcing his opposition.
Fetterman commented on X, “I’ve made it clear that I’m strongly against any bill that cuts Medicaid, a stance that even some of my Republican colleagues agree with.” I reaffirmed my commitment to protecting it and other programs like SNAP because these civil rights leaders recognize their importance.
Those in the party who are fed up with the Democratic senator’s readiness to cooperate with Republicans and back Israel’s military campaign in Gaza and Trump’s bombing of Iranian nuclear targets will probably only become more irate about Trump’s reference to Fetterman.
According to recent polls, Fetterman is more well-liked by Pennsylvania Republicans than by Democrats.
There have been increasing calls for former congressman Conor Lamb of western Pennsylvania to run against Fetterman in the primary. However, Lamb has stated that he has no plans to run in 2028 despite doing town halls and demonstrations throughout the state to voice his disapproval of Trump’s actions.
