According to a Trump supporter and battle veteran, his wife was arrested by federal immigration officials at the port of entry in Nogales while attempting to renew her in-country travel permit.
U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army Reserves, and Ohio National Guard veteran Eddie J. Rosa, 43, a USPS electronics specialist, told Newsweek that his wife, Mireya Alexandra Blancarte Marquez, was arrested on August 11.
Blancarte Marquez was arrested for overstaying her visa and for giving Customs and Border Protection (CBP) false information, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Rosa, who participated in both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, claimed that his wife was paraded in public with handcuffs, just like any other criminal.
Neither in this country nor in Mexico does my wife have any criminal history. Rosa told Newsweek, “I felt violated and disrespected as a fervent believer in our constitutional republic.”
I have heeded the call of my nation and will do so without hesitation. However, this is my spouse. This was a slap in the face to my family in addition to being impolite.
In addition, he chastised the CBP officer for acting in an unprofessional manner.
Rosa stated that he did not regret backing President Donald Trump in spite of the experience.
Trump has ordered his administration to enforce stricter sanctions for visa overstays and to deport millions of migrants who are unlawfully in the country. His team claims that anyone without legal status is breaking the law and has compared future enforcement measures to mass deportations.
After lying to CBP officers about when she entered the country and where she was residing in the United States, Mireya Alexandra Blancarte Marquez was stopped and held by CBP at the DeConcini Port of Entry, the DHS informed Newsweek. She had also overstayed her visa and I-94 travel permit, it was discovered during additional interrogation.
The 40-year-old Blancarte Marquez is the mother of two American citizens. Rosa stated that the family was working to change her legal status and that she had been in the country lawfully since November 2024 on a visitor’s visa.
His family is devastated, according to Rosa, who is completely crippled as a result of his military duty.
She looks after me. “She is my sole source of support,” he stated.
Their 13-year-old kid has been unable to go to school, he continued. Adriana Blancarte, her sister, told Newsweek that she is looking for therapy for the child.
For her son in particular, it has been really unsettling for the whole family. She claimed that he had been depressed.
According to Rosa, the family is currently using GoFundMeto to pay for legal fees because they have had difficulties with the immigration procedure.
The circumstances at the Eloy ICE detention center, where his wife is being held, also caused Rosa to voice concerns.
He claimed that she is upset and not eating.
The Eloy facility’s operator, CoreCivic, told Newsweek that it feeds inmates three wholesome meals a day and that ICE keeps a careful eye on all of its facilities.
Blancarte Marquez will be in jail while removal procedures are underway, according to the DHS.
