Ukrainian sniper reportedly breaks world record with 13,000-foot kill shot against Russian forces: report

According to reports, a Ukrainian sniper team hit Russian forces from more than 13,000 feet (4,000 meters) distant, setting a new world record for the farthest confirmed sniper shot.

According to the Kyiv Post, the shot, which was fired with a rifle developed in Ukraine and aided by drone and artificial intelligence technology, killed two Russian troops close to Pokrovsk, Ukraine.

Military writer Yuri Butusov told the Kyiv Post that the record-breaking shot was fired on August 14, 2025, with a 14.5 mm alligator rifle and artificial intelligence guided by [an unmanned aerial vehicle] complex.

The assault took place when Russian attacks in the vicinity of Pokrovsk, a city that formerly had over 60,000 inhabitants, escalated.

One Ukrainian also held the previous sniper record. According to the outlet, a 58-year-old sniper in that instance struck a target from a distance of roughly 12,400 feet (3,800 meters).

Just one day before President Donald Trump’s widely anticipated encounter with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the new record was set.

Putin stated during their joint press conference that the discussions were conducted in a respectful and productive environment.

Trump is also expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday in Washington, D.C. Zelenskyy stated on X that he and Trump will go over every detail of putting an end to the conflict and the bloodshed.
