Another facility owned by Utz Quality Foods is closing.
The snack manufacturer notified the state of Michigan of a worker adjustment and retraining. The company notified the state that 75 employees would be let go as part of the closure of the Utz manufacturing facility located at 219 Canton St., SW in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
On January 30, the manufacturing plant will close.
In an email, spokeswoman Kevin Brick stated that Utz has experienced rapid expansion in recent years and that we are always looking for methods to optimize the impact of our resources and footprint.
We made the tough choice to permanently close our Grand Rapids, Michigan, location in order to make Utz a more efficient and agile organization, Brick stated. Our manufacturing operations will end on January 30, 2026, and our Grand Rapids warehouse operations will end on May 26, 2026. We appreciate all of the contributions our leaving colleagues have made to Utz, and we pledge to assist them as they move on to their next ventures.
Last year, the business shut down a facility on Carlisle Street in Hanover, York County. Hurricane Ida damaged a Louisiana manufacturing facility in 2021, and it never reopened. In 2023, a facility in Alabama shut down. In 2023, the potato chip firm also announced that it had sold its Bluffton, Indiana, production facility and all associated assets.
Based in Hanover, Utz Brands produces snacks under several brands, including Tortiyahs!, Boulder Canyon, Golden Flake, Zapp’s, On the Border Chips and Dips, Hawaiian Brand, and Utz.
